CESAFI basketball elims ends today

CEBU, Philippines - The double round elimination in the collegiate division of the 16th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. men's basketball tournament winds up with a double-header at the Cebu Coliseum today.

The University of the Visayas Green Lancers will go up against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers in the 5:15 pm opener, right before the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars take on the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats in the main match at 6:30 pm.

USJ-R, UV and defending champion University of San Carlos Warriors are already assured of a twice-to-beat advantage going into next week's quarterfinal playoffs.

The Jaguars, currently sporting an 8-3 win-loss record, are likely to finish as No.2 followed by UV (7-4) and USC (6-6). Given that sequence, the Jaguars will face the tail-ending Wildcats (1-10) in the next round, while the Lancers and the Warriors will slug it out with the Panthers (3-8) and the University of Cebu Webmasters (3-9), respectively.

The winners will then proceed to the semifinals alongside the Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras, who completed a spectacular 12-0 sweep to serve notice on their serious championship campaign.— EBV (FREEMAN)
