CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association has lined up a series of tournaments among its many plans for the rest of the year.

This was agreed upon by  the group during a Board meeting presided over by two-time CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas the other night at Choobi-Choobi restaurant in Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Aside from their regular monthly tiff, CEPCA sports committee chairman Jun Olis said they have also plotted their 26th Anniversary Chess Open set for October 15-16.

The 9-round Swiss system competition will offer a total of P50,000 in cash prizes to the top performers.

Then in November, the club will be holding the 'Cebu Kiddies Chess Festival' as part of its grassroots sports development program.

The Cepcans will offer free registration and snacks to those who will be joining.

CEPCA will cap its year with the grand finals of its monthly tournament also known as the 'Battle of Champions' in the second week of December with no confirmed venue.

The event will be held in conjunction with CEPCA's customary Christmas get together, induction of new members and election of officers, if there will be one as most of the Cepcans are extremely satisfied and pleased with the manner Maratas runs the club for two years now.

Meanwhile, the August edition of CEPCA monthly will take place this Sunday at Robinsons Galleria. (FREEMAN)
