2 Sanman fighters off to Russia today for WBO title bouts
MAKATI CITY, Philippines— Two undefeated prospects from the General Santos City-based Sanman Boxing Club will leave today for Russia in pursuit of their dreams to become regional champions.
Rimar "Terminator" Metuda (10-0, 5KOs) and Romero "Ruthless" Duno (9-0, 8KOs) will figure in separate title bouts against tough Russian foes on May 6 at the DIVS in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
They will be accompanied by Sanman's Chief Finance Officer Dexter "Wang Yu" Tan.
Metuda will slug it out with Mark Urvanov for the WBO Intercontinental Youth
featherweight belt, while the power-hitting Duno will take on Mikhail Alexeev for the WBO Intercontinental super featherweight crown.
“Both of them are fighting young and talented Russian fighters,” said Sanman Promotions President and CEO Jim Claude “JC” Manangquil.
Urvanov sports a 6-1 record spiked with 3KOs, while Alexeev is unscathed in seven pro bouts laced with three knockouts.
“The fights are very evenly match. But we are hoping both Duno and Metuda will bring home the belts,” said Mananquil. “They're in top condition and they trained hard for these fights.”
The 22-year-old Metuda won by a second round stoppage against Joel Hecotibo in his previous match last March 8 in T'Boli, South Cotabato. He earlier snatched the vacant WBF Asia Pacific featherweight strap via a 5th round TKO win over Jason Tinampay on September 26, 2015 in GenSan.
Duno, on the other hand, captured the PBF super featherweight crown by stopping Jason Egera in the eighth round last February 13 at the Gaisano Mall GenSan.— EBV (FREEMAN)
