USPF booters reach semis

CEBU, Philippines - The University of Southern Philippines Foundation won over Don Bosco College, 1-0, in the penalty shootout to virtually advance into the semifinal round in collegiate football event of the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. season yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Regardless of the outcome of its final elimination round assignment against the University San Carlos today, USPF of coach Eleazer Toledo is already assured of a semis berth with 10 points on three wins and a draw.

USC, for its part, is expected to play all-out against USPF with hopes of moving into the next round. The Carolinians are in high spirits after escaping past the University of the Visayas, 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, Yves Caballero stepped up his game to deliver USC's first goal at the 53rd.

UV's Pedro Diao scored the equalizer at the 60th, but a four-minute extension did well for USC, with Christian Saguin knocking in the winning goal at the last minute.

In the final match of the day, defending champion Uniersity of San Jose-Recoletos and the University of Cebu fought to a scoreless draw. (FREEMAN)
