CEBU, Philippines — A 37-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was driving collided with an Elf truck at around 5:50 p.m. Saturday along the national highway in Barangay Perrelos, Carcar City.

Victim Gerald Quijano, a resident of the said barangay, was declared dead on arrival at Carcar Provincial Hospital.

According to PO2 Reygie Amad of Carcar City Police, the victim was driving his Honda XRM motorcycle and was traveling at normal speed bound for San Fernando while the Isuzu Elf, driven by Yosares Isaias, 29, was bound for Ronda town.

The Elf (GPJ 317) was carrying 150 sacks of corn.

Initial investigation revealed that Isaias, who was traveling at high speed, overtook another vehicle encroaching on the city bound lane hitting Quijano’s motorcycle.

Quijano was thrown off and fell on the pavement causing severe injuries on his body.

The police said Quijano’s motorcycle has no plate number and he was driving without a license.

Isaias was detained at the station after the incident.

Quijano’s family went to the police station to see Isaias for a possible amicable settlement of the case. (FREEMAN)
