Gullas backs stipend increase
CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas is bent on granting the request of the City Council to increase the monthly allowance of public school teachers, prosecutors and judges assigned in the city.
The City Council passed two separate resolutions on Tuesday requesting Gullas to raise the stipend for teachers, prosecutors and judges.
Vice Mayor Alan Bucao, chairman of the committee on education, authored the first resolution seeking for the immediate release of the P800 monthly allowance of public elementary and high school teachers and to increase the amount in the months to come.
Another resolution authored by Councilor Richard Francis Aznar also asked for an increase in the allowance of prosecutors and judges.
"I am studying now the funds of Talisay, the cash flow, and then I will make a decision. It is rest assured that I'm leaning heavily on the side of granting this," Gullas said.
Prosecutors and judges stationed in Talisay are receiving P5,000 monthly allowance at present.
It was not, however, specified in the resolutions how much increase should be granted. Gullas said he has an agreement with the members of the council to cooperate.
"The council members, we have an agreement to help each other. There's no question, our family every year needs a bigger income," Gullas said.
"Atong mga bata, from elementary, ma-high school na, unya ma-college. That is the reality, magkadako ang needs sa family naturally magkadako gyud ang needs sa papa ug mama," he added. (FREEMAN)
