CEBU, Philippines - At least 11 minors were caught sniffing volatile substance under a bridge located few meters away from the Mabolo Police Station.

The minors were rescued by the police and the officials of Barangay Mabolo yesterday morning. The youngest of those rescued was six years old while the oldest was 11, three of them were females.

Chief Inspector Wildemar Tiu, commander of Mabolo Police Station, said the rescue operation was conducted after they were informed by Barangay Captain Rey Ompoc of the presence of minors under the bridge.

Tiu said some of these minors are usually seen sniffing solvent and are allegedly involved in robbery incidents in the area.

Tiu said he immediately hatched a plan to rescue the minors. During the operation the minors were seen sniffing solvent.

The barangay officials also decided to cordon off the area to prevent street children from hanging out in the place.

Karon na identified na gyud nato ang problem we give solution,” Tiu said in a text message.

Ompoc said he appreciated the coordination between the barangay and the police. Ompoc said the area is hazardous for children especially that La Niña is coming.

Tiu said the parents of these children will be called to the station. — (FREEMAN)
