Escaped detainee turns himself in

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The detainee who escaped from his police escorts inside the Qimonda building last Monday is now back in the hands of authorities.

Joseph Alcoseba, 33, surrendered himself after allegedly learning that Chief Inspector Wildemar Tiu is now the new head of the Mabolo Police Station.

“Boluntaryo gyud ning ako sir nga mo-surrender ko,” Alcoseba said.

He said he trusts Tiu, who became his acquaintance after the police official arrested him some time ago for a traffic violation.

Alcoseba was arrested for qualified theft and was detained temporarily at the Mabolo Police Station.

Last Monday at the Qimonda building, which houses the courts, he reportedly asked permission to use the restroom on the second floor. His three police escorts waited outside the restroom only to find out later that he was no longer inside.

Tiu, in an interview, said they immediately coordinated with Alcoseba’s live-in partner after the suspect escaped.

He promised her that he will help the suspect once he surrenders to them.

After learning from his live-in partner that Tiu is now the chief of Mabolo Police, Alcoseba allegedly decided to surrender without a second thought. Tiu was formerly the chief of Fuente Police Station.

Tiu then sent PO1 Albert Cabije, one of those who escorted Alcoseba when he escaped, to Barangay Lantawan, San Fernando yesterday to escort the suspect back to the station.

Cabije met Alcoseba, who was with his mother and live-in partner.

The suspect said he escaped because he missed his wife and his family.

He was brought back to Mabolo Police Station where he will be celebrating his 34th birthday on Monday. —/NSA (FREEMAN)
