CEBU, Philippines - After being ravaged by typhoon Yolanda, a newly-transformed Camotes Islands is now ready for the upcoming Suroy Suroy Sugbo (Visit Cebu) from May 1 to 3.

Vice mayor Greman “Jojo” Solante of Tudela, one of the municipalities of Camotes, said he is excited for the tourism program of the Cebu provincial government after it recommended another potential tourist spot in the town.

Solante was referring to Busay Falls in Barangay General, which is almost two kilometers away from the town proper.

Busay Falls, Solante said, was developed without necessarily undertaking major transformation because the place itself is attractive.

“So, mao among gi-develop as probinsiya ra g’yod gihapon kay wala’y gipang-semento ug kon unsa’y naa, mao ra’y among gipanindot,” he said.

He added that after the falls was restored, it drew more than 400 local and international tourists last Easter Sunday.

Apart from the falls, Solante claimed that guests will also enjoy the ‘mini-Boracay’ in Santiago Bay and the Lake Danao, both in the town of San Francisco. Boracay is an island in the Visayas famous for its white sand beaches. The vice mayor said they are expecting 200 guests even without the presence of political personalities.

“No fanfare, kay wala man ta’y political personalities from Capitol,” he said.

Pilar, another town in Camotes Islands, is excluded in the program’s itinerary as it has yet to recover from the typhoon’s wrath.

The province also excluded Bantayan Island, another typhoon-hit area in northern Cebu, as it was reported the rooms could not accommodate the number of guests attending the event. (FREEMAN)
