Liloan entrepreneurs tap MCCI to form chamber

Ehda M. Dagooc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — A Liloan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) will soon be formed, as business prime movers in this northern Cebu town sought the help of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).

"We already had initial discussions with Liloan based entrepreneurs led by Cebu Port Authority commissioner Duke Frasco to form a business chamber in Liloan. They made their formal request already," announced MCCI president Glenn Soco.

Following the success of helping Minglanilla establish a business chamber this year, Soco said MCCI is assisting entrepreneurs in Liloan to officially form an organization in preparation for the town's economic boom.

According to Soco, Frasco's initiative to seek help from MCCI in establishing a business chamber in Liloan is timely, as the town has emerged to be the new business frontier in the northern corridor of Cebu.

In fact, Liloan is considered as the favorite expansion pad for businesses in Mandaue, especially real estate, manufacturing, and distribution, among others.

Soco admitted that Mandaue's lack of available lands for big-ticket investments like in real estate, distribution and manufacturing plants, makes Liloan an attractive expansion site for investments.

Besides, the upcoming installation of Cebu International Port (CIP) in Consolacion, and the approved Mandaue-Consolacion-Liloan bypass road project, which is seen to decongest traffic along the northern highway in Cebu, are few of the factors that investors are counting on. Thus, investments are being positioned now in the nearby areas like Liloan.

This development should be complemented with vibrant, pro-active and organized business sector.

Creating a business chamber is a good, solid start, he added.

Liloan is the hometown of one of Cebu's oldest delicacy brands "Titays", and the host town of Ayala Land's deluxe residential development "Amara", among others.

MCCI will help Liloan-based entrepreneurs--industry prime movers, including local government unit executives to gather in formal setting and form its first business chamber, Soco concluded. (FREEMAN)
