MCWD, Vitens Evides to serve 1,300 residents in Cebu City soon

CEBU, Philippines - At least 1,300 residents in three areas in Cebu City that were not served by the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) will soon enjoy potable and affordable water.

MCWD and Vitens Evides International, a corporate social responsibility firm of two big water companies in Netherlands, will spend P15.8 million for the expansion projects in Lower Greyhound in Kinasang-an, Jansen in Basak-San Nicolas and Villa Pacita in Inayawan.

The contractor of the Lower Greyhound project was already given a notice to proceed on July 13 and is expected to complete the project on November 12.

The contractor of the Jansen project was given its notice to proceed on June 1 and targets to complete the project on September 28 while the contractor of the Villa Pacita project targets to finish is on November 2 after receiving the notice to proceed last June 6.

Rene Roy Tulabing, a resident of Lower Greyhound, is thankful that finally, after the long wait, they will soon be able to avail of MCWD’s service.

He said they spent more than P300 in electric bill for their deep well pump and another P300 for the bottled water which they use for drinking.  They are only four in the family.

Usually, a family of four will only consume not more than 10 cubic meters of water a month.  MCWD charges P152 for the first 10 cubic meters of water consumed by residential connections.

Tulabing said that they have always wanted to get an MCWD connection but the tapping point is very far from their house which means they will have to spend so much for the pipeline and water pressure will be affected because of the distance from the stubout.

With the expansion project, they can soon get an MCWD connection as the distribution line will cross near their house.

The three expansion projects will have a total of 1,030 linear meters of 150mm-diameter pipes to be laid in these three areas. (FREEMAN)
