Enactus Philippines is the country arm of Enactus International, an NGO which operates in 36 countries worldwide and conducts a yearly competition to decide which Philippine team merits the title of Enactus Philippines National Champion Team, which will go on to represent the country at the annual Enactus World Cup.

On Jul. 8, 2017, Department of Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez was the keynote speaker at opening ceremony of the national competition. Secretary Dominquez directed the Development Bank of the Philippines through president and CEO Cecilia Borromeo, and the Land Bank of the Philippines through president & CEO Alex Buenaventura to both explore ways to partner with Enactus.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry president George Barcelon was keynote speaker for the closing ceremony. Under his direction, Enactus Philippines and PCCI are collaborating on aligning their entrepreneurial and employment programs.

This year, the Holy Trinity College of General Santos City, Southern Mindanao was declared national champion team and they represented the Philippines at the 2017 Enactus World Cup in the ExCel London Centre in the United Kingdom from Sept. 26-28. The team’s project is Go Organic, Live Dynamic (GOLD) with two components: Allura soap made of neem leaves, turmeric and coconut oil; and Graviola tea made from Guyabano or soursop leaves.

Both projects make use of resources abundant in the area and help address the community’s financial needs.

At the World Cup’s opening round on Sept. 27, the Philippine team competed against the national champion teams of Italy, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Mexico and advanced to the semifinal round of competition at the ExCel London and went head-to-head with China, Puerto Rico and Ireland in the semifinals. The team bested 19 out of 34 other national champion teams including the US, South Africa, France, Italy, Morocco among others. Also with the delegation was National Youth Commissioner assistant secretary James Ventura, who was the Enactus Philippines nominee to the Enactus Global Alumni of the Year Award.

Declared 2017 Enactus World Champion was the national team of India from Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies. Also in the Top 4 were the national teams of Canada, Kyrgyzstan and Puerto Rico.  Congratulations go to India and the other 34 teams that participated this year.
