MANILA, Philippines — Tech start-up QEV Philippines, the partnership of businessmen Endika Aboitiz and Enrique Banuelos, has teamed up with Sy-led SM Supermalls to install electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging stations.

Under the deal, charging stations will be made available to mall goers with compatible e-vehicles as early as February 2018.

The partners are eyeing to install two pilot charging stations by February next year, QEV general manager Audrey Peñaranda said in a text message.

“We are looking to install one to two charging stations initially in every SM Mall within Metro Manila,” she said.”

The largest mall chain in the country, SM has 64 branches to-date. It has 22 malls in Metro Manila alone.

QEV Philippines plans to put up more than 200 EV charging stations nationwide with the help of location partners before 2022 to support the proliferation of the EV industry.

This is also in line with QEV’s mission to reduce carbon emissions and make use of a more sustainable source of energy in order to have cleaner and greener cities.

Earlier this month, QEV also struck a deal with Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. to put up EV charging infrastructure network in various gas stations across the country.

The memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed by the two parties covers an initial 100 pilot sites for the EV charging posts, with the first 10 installations of the charging stations installed by December.

Apart from Shell and SM, QEV earlier said it is also in talks with the Ayala Group to put up e-jeepney charging stations in their facilities.

The charging posts will be supplied by ABB, the Swiss multinational company specializing in robotics power and automation technology areas.
