Online job hiring up in June

MANILA, Philippines -  Online job hiring in the Philippines maintained its momentum in June, posting a six percent year-on-year growth amid an improving domestic economy, an online research firm said.

Based on the latest Monster Employment Index (MEI), the June online recruitment figure represented a decrease from the 12 percent growth in May but marked its sixth positive annual growth since January.

“The Philippines has been on an upward economic trend for some time now, and this doesn’t look likely to slow down. There is positive economic performance in the months ahead, thanks to the nation’s robust private consumption, as well as the healthy BPO (business process outsourcing),” Monster.com managing director for Asia-Pacific and Middle East Sanjay Modi said.

The business process outsourcing and information technology industry reported the strongest growth at 18 percent followed by the transport, import and export sector at 15 percent.

“Manufacturing, BPO and agricultural sectors are likely to be the key driving forces behind the Philippines’ booming economy, in line with the country’s reform plans,” Modi said.

The retail and the banking, financial services and insurance also grew 13 percent and eight percent, respectively.

In terms of occupational groups, customer service roles continued to take lead in online demand at 26 percent year-on-year. The group has also recorded consistent positive growth since December 2015.

Meanwhile, engineering, construction and real estate sector declined nine percent while health care and advertising both went down one percent.

The MEI is a monthly gauge of online job posting activity based on a real-time review of millions of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career websites and online job listings across the Philippines.
