Phoenix Semicon building new Clark facility

MANILA, Philippines - Phoenix Semiconductor Philippines Corp. (PSPC), the publicly listed semiconductor company, is laying the groundwork for the construction of the second phase of its semiconductor manufacturing and assembly facilities.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) yesterday, PSPC said it has recently signed a project management agreement with D. A. Silvestre & Associates (DASA), an architectural and engineering consulting firm, for the construction of Phase 2.

The project consists of a new process building to house about 40,000 square meters of production floor space for semiconductor assembly and test facilities for PSPC’s future customers.

The project management agreement paves the way for the official start of the implementation of the second manufacturing facility of PSPC in Clark Freeport, Pampanga.

Under the terms of the contract, DASA shall undertake pre-construction activities, such as the review of architectural and engineering designs and plans to ensure compliance with pertinent laws, rules and regulations; to file and obtain the required building and occupancy permits; and to assist in the supervision of the construction of the Phase 2 project.

DASA also undertook the project management of and provided support services for PSPC’s Phase 1 facility in 2010.

PSPC president and chief executive officer (CEO), Byeongchun Lee and Arch. Jose Danilo Silvestre, head of DASA signed the agreement.

PSPC’s Board of Directors had earlier granted authority to Lee to sign and approve all contracts and acts for the construction of the Phase 2 project.

Bidding for the award of the general construction contract and the supply of other related engineering and construction services is ongoing.

PSPC is listed in the local bourse and is one of the country’s top semiconductor products manufacturers. It shipped out $325 million worth of semiconductors in the first quarter of 2016.

Its parent company is Korea-listed Semiconductor & Telecommunications, Co. Ltd. (STS). It calls itself one of the largest semiconductor firms in Asia and is part of the Bokwang Group, one of the major conglomerates in South Korea.
