PSME to do technical audit of DOE

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Energy (DOE) has tapped another third party assessor from the private sector to conduct a technical audit on the generation, transmission and distribution sectors of the power industry.

The DOE signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME), which will provide pro-bono services for the technical audit of the country’s generation, transmission and distribution facilities.

The PSME, the only accredited professional association of registered and professional mechanical engineers in the country, is composed of 84,000 members who have the necessary technical knowledge, expertise and competence to assist the DOE in addressing the current power situation.

“The DOE is determined to immediately address the recurring challenges in the power supply chain that affects the productivity of our people. The entry of PSME will strengthen DOE’s technical audit teams,” Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said.

“Public interest demands an appropriate intervention from both the government and the private sector to ensure consumer protection,” he said.

 The DOE has initiated the formation of technical audit teams which would validate the figures submitted by the generating companies and the distribution utilities which would be used in the delivery of quality, reliable, secure and affordable supply of energy.

Earlier this month, the DOE signed a MOA with the Integrated Institute of Electrical Engineers of the Philippines Inc. (IIEE) for assistance in the technical audit of power facilities.

 On a pro-bono basis, the DOE tapped IIEE for being the only Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC)-accredited professional association in the field of electrical engineering with the necessary technical knowledge, expertise and competence with 47,000 licensed and competent electrical engineers and master electricians across the country.

The parties agreed to organize task forces consisting of DOE personnel and IIEE members that will conduct the technical audit of the generation, transmission and distribution facilities in the country.
