Skyway, SLEx switching to RFID on April 1

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Motorists using the Skyway System and South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) are reminded to have their vehicles installed with the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) stickers to enjoy cashless or electronic toll collection as the old e-pass system is set to be phased out next month.

San Miguel Corp. through Skyway Operations and Maintenance Corp. and Manila Toll Expressway Systems Inc., said the old e-pass system being used for electronic toll collection would cease to operate effective April 1 this year.

“All e-pass users who want to continue enjoying electronic tolling are requested to convert their accounts to RFID on or before March 31, 2016,” SMC said.

The new system which will replace the e-pass tag, makes use of a sticker to be placed on the windshield, to enable faster transaction and smoother flow of traffic along the Skyway and SLEx toll gates.

Motorists can avail of the RFID stickers by visiting the SLEx Office in Calamba, Skyway Office in Bicutan, Parañaque and selected Petron service stations in Metro Manila.

A limited number of RFID stickers are being issued for free to motorists.

RFID stickers are also being installed in villages and barangays.

Companies, villages and organizations interested in availing of RFID stickers may contact the RFID accounts management group for corporate and fleet servicing at (02) 632-3886 or (02) 318-TOLL (8655) and/or email at [email protected]

As for traffic updates, motorists can follow @SkywaySOMCO  and @OfficialSlex on Twitter or contact Skyway hotline 776-7777 and MATES hotline 0917-OUR SLEX(687 7539) for road assistance.
