MPIC kicks off Shore It Up campaign

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - MPIC Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the conglomerate Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), is rolling out a series of Shore It Up campaign programs this year.

Shore It Up 2013 kicked off May 18 in Anilao, Batangas, followed by similar programs in four other strategic destinations in the country to celebrate the Foundation’s half a decade campaign of protecting Mother Nature from natural and man-made degradation.

Since it was first rolled out in 2008, Shore It Up had grown from 20 to 13,000 volunteers and from only three event partners to 43 today, manifesting the socio-economic significance of the campaign. It continues to attract wide support from various government, non-government and private organizations to participate in preserving the country’s environment today and for the generations to come.

“Shore It Up is part of our social corporate responsibility in caring for our environment to ensure our next generation can enjoy the beauty of our ocean and shores,” said Melody del Rosario, VP PR & Corporate Communications, MPIC. “This is a continuous campaign to instill in the minds of the people that everyone must play a role in protecting our environment.”

Besides Anilao, Shore it Up 2013 will also be held in Puerto Galera in Mindoro, Hundred islands in Pangasinan, Subic, Zambales and will wind up in Siargao Island, in Surigao del Norte.

The one-day Shore It Up event in Anilao kicked off the first in a series of five events this year, and is expected to draw participation and support from local government units (LGUs) in Batangas.  It will also be somewhat different compared to the campaign held in Anilao previously, as it will focus more on cleaning up the underwater areas of the island.
