House probe hindi tungkol kay De Lima

MANILA, Philippines — Iginiit ni House of Representatives committee on Justice chair Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali na hindi kay Sen. Leila de Lima iikot ang kanilang imbestigasyon sa ilegal na droga sa loob ng New Bilibid Prison sa lungsod ng Muntinlupa.

“Again, this is not about Sen. Leila De Lima, who is my sister in her sorority Lambda Rho Sigma. And this is really about the issue on the proliferation of drug syndicates in the NBP and I would just like to disabuse the mind of my sis that this is a sham hearing and this is a kangaroo committee that is being conducted here,” pahayag ni Umali.

Naunang sinabi ni De Lima na hindi siya dadalo sa pagdinig na umano’y gagawin lamang upang siraan siya.

Sinabi ito ng senadora matapos siyang akusahan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na tumatanggap ng pera mula sa ilegal na droga ng mga high profile inmates ng Bilibid.

Ilan sa mga nakuhang testigo ng Department of Justice laban kay De Lima ang mga kilabot na preso ng Bilibid, kabilang ang drug lord at kidnapper na Herbert Colangco at Jaybee Sebastian.

Nais ni Umali na masolusyonan ang ilegal na gawain sa loob ng bilibid na ilang taon nang nagpapatuloy.

“Unfortunately, the fact that these convicted felons are still able to continue with their illegal activities while incarcerated makes a complete mockery of our criminal justice system. It renders the justice sought by the victims and their families as mere illusions for how can justice be truly served when the perpetrators themselves are still able to commit crimes with impunity while inside the national penitentiary? This question must be answered in this inquiry and we must able get to the bottom of this issue in order to make sure we put finish to this travesty of justice,” wika ni Umali.

Sa ilang oplan galugad na ginawa ng mga awtoridad ay natuklasan ang marangyang pamumuhay ng mga preso sa loob ng Bilibid kung saan nakakapasoka ng mga ipinagbabawal na kagamitan tulad ng cellphone at higit sa lahat ay ang ilegal na droga.
