MPIC tops poll of best Phl companies

MANILA, Philippines - Infrastructure conglomerate Metro Pacific Investments Corp., headed by business magnate Manuel V. Pangilinan, topped Finance Asia’s poll of best companies in the Philippines in various categories.

Among the best managed companies in the country, MPIC landed the top spot with a score of 38.

Other MVP-led companies on the top 10 are Meralco (fifth spot with a score of 18), Philex Mining (sixth place with a score of 17), affiliate GT Capital (eighth spot with a score of 11).

Other Philippine companies that made it to the top 10 list are Ayala Corp. (second place with a score of 27), Globe Telecom, (third place with a score of 23), Ayala Land (fourth place with a score of 20), Security Bank (seventh place with a score of 13) and Universal Robina Corp. (eighth place with a score of nine).

MPIC likewise topped the list of companies Most Committed to Corporate Governance. Other MVP companies in the list are Philex Mining, PLDT, and affiliate GT Capital.

Other companies in this category are Ayala Corp., Ayala Land, Globe Telecom, SM Investments Corp., and Aboitiz Equity Ventures.

Among the list of Companies Best at Investor Relations, MPIC also bagged the top spot followed by PLDT. Philex Mining came in third while GT Capital ranked seventh.

Completing the list are Globe Telecom, Ayala Corp., BDO Unibank, Ayala Land, Robinsons Retail, San Miguel Corp., and SM Prime.

For the list of companies Best at Corporate Social Responsibility, MPIC also ranked first while Philex Mining and PLDT placed third and fifth, respectively.

Other companies that made it to this list are Ayala Corp., Globe Telecom, Aboitiz Power, SM Investments, SM Prime, Aboitiz Equity Ventures, and Energy Development Corp.

For the Best CEO list, Ernest Cu of Globe Telecom ranked first followed by MPIC’s Jose Ma. Lim and Ayala Corp.’s Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala.

MPIC chief finance officer David Nicol, on the other hand, placed first in the Best CFO list followed by Philex Mining’s Danny Yu, and Ayala Land’s Jaime Ysmael.
