Huge turnout for Madridejos cycling race

CEBU, Philippines —  A total of 175 cyclists across the paradise island of Bantayan will be

seeing action in the  highly anticipated “LGU Madridejos Fiesta Race”

slated on December 7 in Madridejos town north of Cebu.

As per the organizing Madridejos Cycling Club (MACYC), the biggest chunk of 40 participants came from the Under 17 category.

The 18-32 age group drew 34 entries followed by the 50-above with 19. The other contenders are spread into the girls and 33-39 class with 12 each and the Under 15 with 14.

In the main showcase of the biggest and richest cycling event in the town’s sports history, a total of 27 bikers will be slugging it out for supremacy in the road bike while 17 will vie for top honors in the mountain bike open.

Offering close to P60,000 in cash prize courtesy of LGU Madridejos under the leadership of Mayor Salvador “Sally” De La Fuente, the grueling race is aimed at adding vibrance to the annual fiesta celebration of the Lawisanons in honor of their beloved patroness, the miraculous Inmaculada Concepcion on December 8.

Aside from trophies, medals and certificates, the top three winners in the men’s open division of both the mountain bike and road bike competition will take home a uniform cash reward of P5,000, P3,000, and P2,000, respectively.

The rest of top three finishers in the women’s open, men’s 17 Under, 36-49, and 50-above age groups of mountain bike and 15-below category of road race will pocket P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000.

Also, the champions in all eight categories will bring home one sack of rice each, while the second and third placers will take 15 kilos of rice. 

Some bike items and accessories will be given away while a brand new mountain bike will be raffled off to make the event a fun-filled and memorable moment for everyone to enjoy. — EBV
