Useless installation

THAT DOES IT - Korina Sanchez - The Freeman

The driver of the SUV that went up the sidewalk at NAIA Terminal 1, killing two and injuring four, tested negative for alcohol and illegal drugs. Nevertheless, the cases against the driver will proceed. The LTO will also study the issuance of new licenses due to the series of bloody accidents and the total number of accidents today. Not everyone who knows how to turn the key and the steering wheel knows how to drive. Many of them are only issued licenses because of corruption in the LTO. Honestly, the LTO, through past administrations, has been promising reforms, but in the end, nothing has changed.

President Bongbong Marcos Jr. has ordered an investigation into the bollards that were placed along the NAIA sidewalk in 2019. We know under whose watch that was. It turned out the bollards were unable to stop the SUV from mounting the curb. It looks like the bollards are just welded to a steel plate. The plate is then bolted to the sidewalk. So, the only thing preventing these bollards from being knocked over is bolts on the sidewalk. They are more decorative than functional. Bollards should have a considerable length buried into the concrete floor to give it strength. They won't be easily knocked over. There should be an investigation into who installed them, whether the correct installation was followed, and how much it cost. If any anomaly or corruption is discovered, file a criminal lawsuit immediately.

On another issue, moto-vlogger Yanna Aguinaldo was a no-show at the LTO last Tuesday, citing security reasons. She sent a lawyer instead. She is the moto-vlogger in the viral video where she got involved in an altercation in Zambales. In the said video that she took, she was annoyed because she couldn't overtake the pick-up. They were on a dirt road, so the pick-up was probably looking for a better way to proceed. When she got through, she gave the pick-up the dirty finger. The driver of the pick-up was going to let that pass, but he noticed that a motorcycle group seemed to be waiting for him. When he spoke to the vlogger, she replied arrogantly. The vlogger even cursed at the driver who had already left. How brave!

Social media was quick to react. She was supposedly called out because she didn't factor in the dirt road and then passed the pick-up on the right. And why did she wait for the pick-up? Was she gearing up for a fight because she had other companions? Now, because of her arrogance, she is persona non grata in Zambales, her license is suspended and may even be canceled, and she will face charges filed by the pick-up driver. All this while dealing with haters and bashers. Now she apologizes. “Tapang today iyak tomorrow.” A lesson for everyone to be careful when uploading videos to the internet. Make sure you are in the right first, or the whole world might just turn on you.
