Romeo Marantal - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has assured that tight security is in place for the start of the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) today, May 4, 2024.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Janette Rafter, CCPO Deputy City Director for Administration, said that they have planned the security measures for the CVIRAA ahead of time. But she said it may change, depending on what is needed during the 6-day sports event.

“So far with the current plan we have drafted, the current security plan that was approved already. (But) again, as I’ve said, we have to be flexible also as we go along with the activity,” Rafter said.

Around 500 police personnel are deployed for the CVIRAA, including in the sporting venues and the billeting quarters of the athletes.

Apart from CCPO enforcement, other delegations are also accompanied by police from their own towns or cities.

Further, 20 schools in the city are used as billeting areas and each billeting area have six police personnel from CCPO.

Apart from this, SWAT personnel are also deployed, as well as security guards from the schools and sporting venues.

The CCPO also established a Multi-Agency Coordinating Center located at the 4th floor of the Cebu City Social Hall.

“As I’ve said there are augmentation personnel from the different PPOs and those from the billeting areas are not from Cebu so we have provided them handheld radio nga there is an exclusive channel for that nga didto ra gyud mag report sa mga panghitabo, mga development bahin sa aton CVIRAA,”said Lt. Col. Rafter. (CEBU NEWS)
