It’s SLAC time

READER’S VIEWS - The Freeman

It is very clear that the School-based Learning Action Cell (SLAC) is one of the programs that support the continuing professional development of all teaching personnel. Appropriate methods and strategies are used to aid teachers improve the teaching-learning process to achieve quality education and produce highly competitive individuals.

The line “SLAC? Why?” is a realization that to some having SLAC is an additional burden to their daily routine as a public-school servant. Uttering those words may be a simple way of expressing a fact that they do not really understand the paramount essence of Learning Action Cell in schools. Remember that our leaders are institutionalizing this program because it aims to develop and support teachers by nurturing the knowledge, attitudes, competencies and to have a platform where there are collaborative learning sessions and support to solve various challenges encountered.

Promoting collegial planning and action implementation to address gaps are essential to improve learners learning and development. “Education must continue” from Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones is an epitome that no one should be left behind, both learners and teachers must be equally equipped with lifelong learning experiences and support that will lead to educational successes. Hence, it is very true that learning is greatly influenced by the quality of teaching. Instead of uttering those words, take part and learn with SLAC and be a catalyst of change.
