A move in the wrong direction

The proposal of some top DepEd officials and senators to restore face-to-face learning classes in our schools is to me a move in the wrong direction. We know of European countries particularly Spain that closed their schools after a few months of classes because of a spike in COVID-19 cases in some of their schools. Why can't we wait until the opportune time comes and the life of our students are not endangered?

During World War II schools were closed for the duration of the war which lasted four years and some of our school buildings were even used as headquarters of the Japanese Imperial Army. When peace came, classes reopened and there were no negative effects on our educational system except older but more responsible pupils.

It's good that President Duterte and DILG Secretary Año intervened. For those who are so naive and insisting on the opening face-to-face learning instruction in our schools, I pray let us wait and be patient. A glimmer of hope of the dawn of a new world wide is about to perfect the vaccines against our common enemy, the COVID-19 pandemic. Until then and with the Almighty's blessing let us pray that this would come to fruition.

Response to Gabriel Clark’s letter

Good day!

I am writing this letter addressed to Gabriel Clark regarding his February 17 opinion to Jerry Tundag.

I must say his letter was very powerful and encouraging, especially at times like these wherein people are afraid to speak up about the truth. What was interesting about this was how respectfully tactful the message was, which allowed readers like me to clearly understand all the points he was driving at because I also believe that the world simply has not and will not move on without ABS-CBN.

I completely agree with Mr. Clark when he said that Mr. Tundag has “made this a personal issue,” just like all the other lawmakers who chose to deny ABS-CBN’s franchise. Clearly, those who are against the network have personal grudges and selfish ambitions that’s why they prefer to turn a blind eye to all the contributions ABS-CBN has given all the Kapamilyas around the world.

Similar to Mr. Clark, we need more voices who are brave enough to fight for the truth and less of the power-tripping schemes.

Sincerely,

Elle Oropesa
