Let us do our share and save lives

PERSPECTIVE - Cherry Piquero-Ballescas - The Freeman

Have you read the heartbreaking stories of our fallen, selfless frontliners? Already, we have lost nine of our top doctors, not to mention other healthcare providers and other frontliners.

Reflecting Christ, they gave up their lives so that others may live.

Shall we take the deaths of our selfless doctors and frontliners seriously so others more can be saved and protected?

All of these departed so deserve our sincere thanks, salute, and appreciation. A moment of silence to pray for their eternal repose please. Also, another moment to express our heartfelt condolence and prayers for God’s comfort for their grieving family members.

DOH announced that it will provide ample financial support to the families of these heroic doctors/frontliners. Although nothing can ever replace them, we pray that the DOH will keep its word and take care of their families.

Shall we also honor their selfless deaths by doing our share for the other frontliners as well? Shall we do our best effort to keep them safe, protected, and alive?

Prayer and lifting them to God is a daily offering and tribute we can do for them. Can we also do our simple share of staying home as advised?

While all of us, especially the authorities, have to study well how to make life and staying home easier for those especially in crowded, poor communities, everyone has to understand and seriously obey/comply/volunteer/agree to stay home.

This is to help lessen the possible contamination, the further spread of the dangerous virus. The less afflicted, the less need for frontliners, the less heavy work and time our frontliners will have to share, and, the more time they can finally spend for themselves and their loved ones!

Staying home will also be good for everyone. Just by staying home, one decreases and avoids the incidence of catching the virus and testing positive for COVID-19. Staying home then means staying alive, saving oneself as well, your loved ones and others.

Even while staying home, there are so many heartening and inspiring contributions others have shared for protecting and helping frontliners and others in need.

Applause and thanks to groups and universities that have been making facemasks, PPE, alcohol, among others, to share with our precious frontliners.

Thank you to all donors who shared materials and/or cash to produce the needed protective items for healthcare providers.

From your home, you can watch out for announcements or requests for donations which you can respond to and/or which you can pass on and share with those who may be able to donate.

Many have also shared food, especially to the needy.

Franz Olea of La Estancia Agri-Ventures posted that because of the closure of their clients and partner establishments in Cebu, they had surplus produce which they decided they wanted, as producers, to share with our frontliners. Several groups received the donated organic vegetables from Franz’ group for their feeding programs!

Food producers also need everyone’s help.

Rather than have products go to waste, rather than have producers not earn for their daily needs, please help by placing orders for their products which they can deliver at an agreed upon designated place or system. Again, please watch out for announcements and calls relating to what you can contribute for food producers and other needy groups.

All throughout our country and the whole world, it is beautiful to behold a growing awareness and recognition of the urgent need for everyone to share help, kindness, generosity, and compassion to save and protect all and our world!
