The virus we all want to spread

ESSENCE - Ligaya Rabago-Visaya - The Freeman

A day before Valentine’s Day we were at a mall. We were surprised that there were more vacant parking lots, unlike other usual days. Is it because of the virus scare, or were people just preparing for the Valentine’s Day itself? As highly suggested by authorities not to be in public places as much as possible so the reason behind activities that involve a crowd are being suspended or even totally cancelled for health reasons. Transmissions of the virus can be very potent when in contact with others, like in a crowd. So many activities have been cancelled even if so much preparations have been put into them. Take for instance, the centennial celebration of Consolacion as a town. So many big events have been put on hold or totally cancelled.

However, there is this kind of virus that we want to spread and be “contaminated” with in this day when people would want to spend time outside --for lunch or dinner or even in a concert or watching movies. Yes, the scenario is usual for every Valentine’s Day that streets are busy, hotels, motels and restaurants are fully-booked too. This kind of virus reinvigorates the love that has started to dwindle. Rekindling the good memories spent together, and the commitment to last forever.

Flowers, chocolates, love notes are ubiquitous, gifts that are temporary and often forgotten. But love is always remembered. It is the real message of love that accompanies these gifts. This means loving someone not only for today and tomorrow but forever. And this is all that matters.

Love has been the driving force of change, to be better, giving people hope and something to anticipate. Love has shown us more life than everything else ever could. It has shown us the way the world works. It has taught us how beautiful and horrible everyone in this world is capable of being.

Love is what drives us to act. It drives us to create change, to become different people. I say different and not better because the truth is love doesn’t always turn us into better individuals.

Love doesn’t always make us better people – sometimes it makes us a whole lot worse.

In life, we are capable of loving a lot of things. We can love objects, experiences, memories, but no love is like the love we have for another human being.

We need to comprehend what love truly is. Love is an emotion, however not only just a feeling. It is, more than everything else, a change. Love essentially transforms us since it is, itself, the change. We love our dear ones since they transformed ourselves for the better. They showed us another, better version of reality. They didn't just add to our lives; they transformed us, changed our viewpoint, changed what we thought it meant to be alive.

And afterward, obviously, we have the most pined for of all things considered; romantic love. Romantic love is by far the most perilous of loves, however for this exact same explanation, it is the most powerful.

After all we do not need any special occasion to express our love for others. But on this occasion, let’s spread the virus that is meant to last forever, creating a Jack, a Rose, and a heart that will always go on and on!
