AN ORDINANCE NAMING THE UNNAMED BRIDGE CONNECTING BARANGAY MAMBALING AND THE SOUTH ROAD PROPERTIES ALONG FRANCISCO S. VESTIL STREET AS “SCOUTMASTER SERGIO P. DAMAZO JR. BRIDGE” IN COMMEMORATION OF HIS EXCEPTIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ACADEMIC AND YOUTH SECTORS OF THE CITY OF CEBU.

WHEREAS, Atty. Clarence Paul V. Oaminal, former president of the University of San Jose-Recoletos High School Alumni Association, in a letter dated March 1, 2019 requested the 14th Sangguniang Panlungsod of the City of Cebu through the Office of City Councilor James Anthony R. Cuenco to name the unnamed bridge connecting Barangay Mambaling and the South Road Properties (SRP) as “SCOUTMASTER SERGIO P. DAMAZO JR. BRIDGE”.

WHEREAS, due to the 2010 Revised Guidelines on Naming and Renaming of Streets, Public Schools, Plazas, Building, Bridges and other Public Structures by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), the aforesaid request was not immediately heeded as the 10 year requirement from the date of death of the person has yet to be attained by the former;

WHEREAS, upon the 10th death anniversary of Scoutmaster Sergio P. Damazo Jr. last May 2, 2019, the same has satisfactorily complied with the requirements mandated by the National Historical Council of the Philippines Revised Guidelines;

WHEREAS, Scoutmaster Sergio P. Damazo Jr. has had numerous valuable contributions to the academic and youth sectors of the City of Cebu through his innovative and exemplary leadership as a Scoutmaster of the University of San Jose-Recoletos for 45 years;’

WHEREAS, by reason of his unwavering commitment and dedication to instill Christian values and moral principles through scouting, he was awarded by the Cebu City Government as the Most Outstanding Teacher (Secondary Level) in 1968 and the Lifetime Achievement Award during the 56th Charter Anniversary of the City of Cebu in 1993; (To be continued)
