End of days

I do not think North Korea’s Kim Jong Un will launch missiles at Guam as he has boasted, not even if he has calibrated his missiles in such a way that they do not actually hit the island. Kim may just be a little boy in a big man’s body but I think he knows perfectly well that if he so much as let fly one missile toward Guam it would be the absolute end of him and his kind.

The US is not likely to wait and see if a missile does hit Guam. Contrary to what some analysts say that any missile launched by Kim will only be a provocation and designed to fall short of target and therefore must not merit American retaliation, I think the US has neither the willingness nor the luxury of time to wait and see if a missile on the way to Guam falls short of target or not.

I think a missile that the US knows is on its way to Guam can only merit one reaction –and that is to take it down. No ifs or buts. And that is not being hawkish or foolish.

That is being prudent and wise. And if one thing leads to another and everybody gets drawn in, then where else would we find ourselves but on the edge of Earth’s grand finale. Then maybe we can just toast each and every fellow earth rider a warm goodbye before we roast.

Of course no fool would want things to come to this. We all have struggled hard to make a life for ourselves. Unfortunately for us, shit just happens. There just have to be the Kims of the world. We all have been children once. We all have seen the Kim types in our own neighborhoods. We all have seen how good they are at bluster but are not truly up to a real fight.

But the threats of Kim should not be ignored nor the situation be belittled. For while Kim may have no intention of committing suicide, little boys with big bodies just cannot be trusted with sensitive toys, especially if they get an erection just handling one. In other words, Kim may actually launch a missile or two in the direction of Guam without meaning to hit the island but just for the heck of it.

And knowing, as I said, how that leaves the US with no choice but to take any missile headed in the direction of Guam down, the important thing is how to keep Kim from playing with his dangerous toy. And believe it or not, it is the Americans themselves and not Kim or the North Koreans who will bear ultimate responsibility for any missile that will be let fly toward Guam.

And why is this so? I think Kim’s bravado feeds on the daily dose of American disunity being shown daily on American media such as CNN. Kim must have seen how the American president is being undermined daily by his own people. He must have come to the conclusion that the Trump presidency is illegitimate, that Trump no longer commands the respect of the American people. The temptation is great to think now would be a good time to test American resolve and strength.

But that is the North Korean thinking. For America and Americans faced with the threat of a missile-armed madman, now would be the time to rally behind their president, love him or loathe him, he is the only one they got.

If Kim is sufficiently convinced his calculated risks are right and makes the mistake of pressing the button, then it matters not who sits in the White House because there may no longer be any White House to sit in, nor a single American to care.
