Liza visits Bilibid

MANILA, Philippines — First Lady Liza Marcos visited the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) on Tuesday and witnessed the release of 43 prisoners under the “Bilis Laya” program.
Marcos became the first person in her position to visit the NBP.
More than 200 volunteer lawyers reviewed the records of the inmates to expedite their release.
Marcos, according to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), helped in enlisting these lawyers from the Ateneo Utopia Fraternity, Women of Aleitheia Sorority, National Bureau of Investigation, National Telecommunications Commission and Integrated Bar of the Philippines.
“The First Lady’s visit reminds us that behind every prison wall are individuals who, despite their past mistakes, remain deserving of dignity, compassion and opportunities for meaningful transformation,” BuCor Director Gregorio Catapang Jr. said.
