Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Patients from the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu and other areas in Cebu who are confined at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC), will continue to receive medical assistance from the office of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano and his sister Senator Pia Cayetano.

Dr. Nerito “Rey” Martinez, DM, PH.D, political affairs head for the Visayas of Senator Cayetano’s office and organizer of the Compañero Cayetano Tavang Volunteers announced this yesterday during his visit to VSMMC.

According to Martinez, the medical assistance program started three years ago, but stopped at the middle of last year and resumed late last year.

Martinez said those patients admitted at the said hospital who requested for assistance were given medical referrals and converted into medicines.

The patients using the medical referrals will avail medicines from P1,000 to P2,500. They can also use these for the patients' billings.

Danao City Vice Mayor Ramon “Red” Durano VI, on the other hand, expressed his thanks to the Cayetanos for helping his city.

The office of Vice Mayor Durano recieved P100,000 worth of medical referrals from Senator Alan  through Martinez.

Senator Alan and his sister Pia have signed a memorandum of agreement with VSMMC. The money deposited by both senators for the hospital is said to be for use of indigent residents of Metro Cebu and Cebu province and neighboring provinces.

Unlike other medical assistance programs from other office, the Office of Cayetano prioritizes patients at the VSMMC.

Aside from barangay captains, councilors, municipal and city mayors, governors, medical referrals are also given to parish priests.  (FREEMAN)
