Naga to use LED for street lighting

CEBU, Philippines - To save on electricity, the City of Naga will invest P10 million in Light Emitting Diode, or LED, for a street-lighting project next year.

“We will use uniform street lighting using LEDs. According to studies, menus ra ang konsumo sa kuryente,” said Mayor Val Chiong.

He said if the city now consumes P500,000 monthly in electricity, LEDs can bring this down to P200,000.

Chiong said he will implement the project next year.

He said the lights will be mounted on Visayan Electric Company electrical poles and that VECO will take care of the maintenance of the lights, Chiong said.

At the moment, the city’s streets are lit by old sodium lamps.

Chiong also plans to strengthen the city’s rescue team, known as the Naga Emergency and Action Team, by providing it with equipment and an ambulance.

Chiong said the move is to ensure quicker response during emergencies.

Along with this development, Chiong said CCTV cameras will also be posted along streets to discourage the commission of crimes and for monitoring purposes. â€“ (FREEMAN)
