Ninety urban poor families may pay taxes at later date

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City government contemplates deferring the payment of taxes as a condition for the subdivision approval by 90 families who are living in Lot 4634 in barangay San Roque.

City legal officer Alfredo Sipalay said he will request Mayor Johnny De los Reyes to refrain from collecting payment from occupants until such time the final lot allocation will be determined using the approved subdivision plan.

Last week, Cebu City Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor chief Collin Rosell asked De los Reyes for assistance in facilitating and expediting the approval of the application for Preliminary Approval and Locational Clearance (PALC)  of  Lot 4634.

The property, which is owned by the city government, is occupied by families affected by the road opening in New Imus Road, majority of them are now voters of Talisay.

Last Sept. 10, Rosell said they made a follow up of the application for approval, which immediately conducted a site inspection.

And after the inspection, the occupants are told to pay the latest realty taxes as pre-requisite for the approval.

The occupants will have to pay P7,100.

“The same office requires payment of the latest realty taxes as a pre-requisite for the approval of the subdivision plan,” Rosell said.  (FREEMAN)
