Vitor vows KO win vs Korean challenger in first title defense

Emmanuel B. Villaruel - The Freeman

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines — Bohol’s pride John Virgel “Valiente” Vitor (19-2, 12KOs) has vowed to deliver a crushing knockout victory as he puts his WBO Oriental super featherweight throne on the line against Korean challenger Dong Kwan Lee (16-2-2, 7KOs) in the main event of “Kumong Bol-anon 8” presented by PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions today, December 8, at the Calape Cultural and Sports Complex in Calape, Bohol.

During the event’s final press conference yesterday at the Tagbilaran City Hall, the 25-year-old Vitor declared with confidence that he is aiming for a stoppage although he was reluctant to predict on what round he will put to sleep the Korean visitor.

“Excited kaayo ko kay first defense ni nako sa ako belt. Ako paningkamotan nga makuha ang impresibo gihapon nga kadaogan,” said Vitor, who captured the WBO regional title after destroying Thailand’s Arnon Yupang in just two rounds last September 9 at the Dimiao Cultural and Multi-Purpose Center in Dimiao, Bohol.

“Naa gyu’y ma-knockout kay mao gyud na akong aim. Dili ko kasulti unsa nga round pero if naay opportunity  makakita ko og opening ako gyud dayon i-grab,” Vitor continued.

Vitor must be extra cautious so as not to end up eating his own words as the 30-year-old Lee, the WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver featherweight titlist, is no patsy.

“Maybe he can’t hit me. I’ll be the one who is going to knock him out,” fired back Lee, who won his last eight fights, the last two against Filipino boxers Michael Landero and Roemart Sentillas.

In the equally-explosive supporting main event, PMI Bohol’s undefeated featherweight prospect Daniel “Vaquero” Nicolas (6-0, 4KOs) will shoot for for the vacant WBO Oriental Youth crown as he battles against Jestine Tesoro (7-4, 3KOs) of Bansalan Davao del Sur

WBF Asia Pacific super bantamweight champion Jhunrille Castino hopes to catch part of the spotlight as he trade blows with Emmanuel Mogawa in another exciting match-up.

“I assure everyone that the bouts tomorrow will be interesting and full of action,” said PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions big boss Floriezyl Echavez Podot.

The rest of the slambang fight card features Shane Gentallan vs Ronald Ewican; Rodel Suganob vs Mark Glen Antaran; Christian Balunan vs Ramil Yacapin; Gerwin Asilo vs Kier Clenton Espere; Reymart Tagacanao vs Jerry Tabago; Rjay Siose vs Dave Barlas; Pablito Balidio vs Briel Ozaraga; Arnel Tinampay vs Ryan Maano;and Renoel Pael vs. John Vincent Pangga.
