The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  It’s showtime as the crowd-pleasing Mav’s Phenomenal collides with the Northball Cebu All-Stars in a surefire blockbuster exhibition game today at the Minglanilla Sports Complex in Minglanilla, Cebu.

Action starts at 7:30 p.m. but gates will open as early at 3 p.m. as the organizers are expecting a massive influx of fans in what is by far the biggest hoop event in southern Cebu since the pandemic.

Led by their team manager Dane Grospe, Mav’s Phenomenal will parade Erricson “The Reaper” Gabay, Poypoy Actub, Mavrik Bautista, Richard Velchez, Nem de la Cruz, Christian Palma, and Joshua Roque.

The Phenom will lock up horns with the equally-tough Northball side, which is an assortment of former and active PBA cagers, commercial veterans and collegiate standouts.

Bannered by Cebuano basketball great Dondon Hontiveros as their playing coach, the Northball squad is powered by the last three MVPs of the CESAFI in Rey Suerte, Jaybie Mantilla, and Shaq Imperial.

Completing Northball’s star-studded roster are Paul Desiderio, Patrick Jan Cabahug, Barkley Ebona, Shane Menina, Joshua de la Cerna, Bernie Bregondo, Lugie Cuyos, JC Escalona, Steve Castro, Alwin Aguirre, Wesley Malazarte, and Keaton Taburnal.

Staged in partnership with Minglanilla LGU headed by mayor Rajiv Enad, the slambang spectacle is supported by RD Pawnshop, CSAS, VDrink Malunggay, and 032 Kicks by Miller.

The few remaining tickets, priced at P150 for general admission, P250 for lower box, P400 for courtside, and P650 for VIP section, will be sold outside the playing venue starting at 10 am. — EBV
