Ornopia Cup hoop kicks off today in Calambua

CEBU, Philippines —  Six teams will slug it out for top honors as the MS Motosuit-presented 2020 Lou Ornopia Cup Open Basketball Tournament gets underway at 4 p.m. today at the Calambua covered court in San Remigio north of Cebu.

The contenders are Olilab Oil, Inc. of Jay Olivar, Lelah Construction/SBM Alumni, Saint Francis-Danao of Ryan Perez, T & T Slasher of Loloy Tagalog, Team Mabuhay of Mamai Arnado, and Tabogon PNP headed by P/Lt. Luciano Autida Fuentes.

They will play a single round robin, with the top four advancing to the crossover semifinals. The winners will dispute the title in a knockout match while the losers battle for third place.

On top of trophies, the champion will take home P20,000 while the second and third placers will pocket P15,000 and P10,000, respectively. Special prizes will also be handed out to to the Most Valuable Player, Mythical Five, and Sportsmanship awardee.

The month-long tilt, which is among the highlights of Calambua’s annual fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patron San Vicente Ferrer on April 17-18, is backed up by provincial board members Francis Salimbangon and Kerry Shimura, vice mayor Al Pestolante, RMO Motor Parts, MS Motosuit, F & FO Motor Parts, NF Enterprises, LMO Motor Parts and General Merchandise, N-Style, and Diosdado Navarez. All games will be under the supervision of commissioner Reynante Jubay. EBV
