Sarok Weavers thrash Compostela to reach semifinals

CEBU, Philippines — In an amazing display of teamwork and balanced attack, nine players cracked double figures as the Consolacion Sarok Weavers annihilated the Compostela Yadsan, 118-72, to stay unbeaten in the 1st Mayor Irish B. Gestopa Cup Inter-Town Basketball Tournament at the Catmon Sports Complex.

Froiland Maglasang, a mainstay of the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, unloaded 21 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and three steals, while Kin Dayday, a varsity of the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors, banged in 18 points, eight assists, three rebounds and three steals to pace the red-hot Sarok Weavers.

It was actually Aaron Dave Embrado who stoked the offensive fire for the Sarok Weavers after he opened the match with three consecutive 3-pointers to finish with 12 points.

Paolo Dalumpines cashed in 15 points, 14 assists, three rebounds and three steals, Brevin Keith Padayogdog also dished out a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Jessie Bathan sizzled with 12 points, six steals and six assists for the Sarok Weavers, who gained an outright semifinal entry for topping their bracket with a clean 2-0 record.

John Lloyd Pepito added 12 points, seven steals and six assists while Dwight Gonzaga and Rovello Robles each scored 10 for the Sarok Weavers of coach Paul Alelu Flores, who were in complete control of the match after cruising to a fast 31-15 start.

Ahead by a mile at halftime, 61-31, the Sarok Weavers kept on pounding the hapless Compostela the rest of the way on the way to come up with a 46-point blowout.

Ritchie Lafe and Nino Quipol connived for 28 points and 15 rebounds while Jefferson Alivio finished with 10 points and seven assists in a losing effort for Compostela.
