YYBC, 99ers overcome foes in Amicis hoopla

CEBU, Philippines — Team YYBC and the 99ers kick-started their title campaigns with hard-earned victories  in the 30-above category of the 1st Amicis Basketball League (ABL) at the Consolacion Sports Complex.

Iyong Gicole sizzled with 21 points, eight assists and five rebounds while KD Cabajes chipped in 20 markers on top of nine assists and three rebounds to rally YYBC of coach Kristoffer Dave Cabajes past Alfa Compound, 72-66.

Jared Maglasang contributed 14 points for YYBC, which squandered a huge 51-38 advantage after three quarters but recovered in time to grind through a six-point win.

Armean Noar and Jessiel Gungob both came up with a solid double-double show, albeit in a losing effort for Alfa Compound. Noar dropped 29 points and 14  rebounds spiced up with two assists while Gungob finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds but to no avail.

On the other hand, Ror Paspie scattered 19 points, seven assists and six boards as the 99ers downed Rizal Micro, 79-74.

The 99ers surged to a 60-52 lead at the end of the third period, then quelled a spirited endgame resistance by Rizal Micro to walk away with a close five-point triumph.

Paspie was heavily backed up by Mark Sanchez with 17 points, eight assists and three rebounds as well as Malcolm Sanchez and Rey Judilla who combined for 21 points.

Melborn Tadiosa banged in 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists while Jonathan Angcajas piled up 18 points, six dimes and three boards but their efforts went for naught for Rizal Micro. EBV
