CESAFI Football: USC completes 4-peat

The University of San Carlos booters snare their fourth-straight collegiate championship in CESAFI yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

CEBU, Philippines — The University of San Carlos booters claimed their fourth straight collegiate division title after silencing the University of Cebu, 3-0, in the 19th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) football tournament yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Rico John Toledo sank USC’s first goal before the end of the first half last week, but the match was halted due to technical problems in the venue. After the game was reset to a full 45-minute yesterday as agreed by both teams, UC got the chance to dethrone USC but to no avail.

In the resumption of the match, USC booters showed that they are dead serious in clinching their seventh CESAFI crown as Steven Patalinghug scored at the 50th minute. Christian Keen Agot also connected at the 65th that erased UC’s chance of dethroning them.

Patalinghug was hailed as the Most Valuable Player while Colmenares got the best goal keeper award. Agot was named best midfielder while UC’s Kurt Cuizon bagged the top scorer award and his teammate Adrian Gabriel Lim as the best defender.
