CEBU, Philippines — After Davao, it’s the turn of the Queen City of the South to host the torch relay for the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games today at the South Road Properties.
Around 6,000 participants are set to join the five-kilometer torch run at 5 p.m., according to the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV).
Prior to the torch run, there will be a short program at Block 5 of SM Seaside City, with OPAV Secretary Michael Lloyd Dino and Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella gracing the event together with Philippine Sports Commissioner Ramon Fernandez and PHISGOC Chief Operating Officer Ramon “Tats” Suzara.
Dino and Labella are among the torchbearers along with former PBA star now Cebu City Councilor Dondon Hontiveros, triathlete Andrew Kim Remolino, karateka Sarah Pangilinan and cyclist Tom Romualdez.
In line with the torch relay, there will be a six-hour road closure of the South-bound lane of SRP starting at 2:00 p.m., from the corner of F. Vestil Street fronting SM Seaside up to the boundary bridge of Cebu City and Talisay City.
Half of the South Coastal Road or the northbound lane shall be utilized as a two-way road to give way to motorists going to Cebu City and South Cebu, accordingly.
After Cebu, the official SEA Games torch will be passed on to Tagaytay, Metro Manila and the New Clark City in Tarlac until it reaches its final destination.
