CESAFI Football: DBTC booters prevail

CEBU, Philippines — Don Bosco Technical College claimed the secondary title with a thrilling, 5-3, victory over the University Zof San Jose Recoletos in the 19th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., football tournament yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

It was such a sweet victory for coach Glen Ramos as they won over his former players who left DBTC and transferred to USJ-R.

“Yes, this is indeed a very sweet victory for me, for us. I have long waited for this time to come and I’m thankful that our prayers were answered,” said coach Ramos.

Playing against each other in the finals for the first time, both teams showed that they are hungry for the championship that resulted into a scoreless draw after the regulation period.

With heavy rains pouring, the two teams figured in an exciting shootout.

DBTC were the first to take make the attempt with Josh Rupert Asignar logging in the first goal then equalized by Christian Vierh Agot.

Kristi Vence Ybanez added another one for DBTC but Louis Andrian Colina immediately answered back.

DBTC then got the upperhand after Tristan Enad sank his goal while one of USJ-R’s most trusted players Dustin Drey Ramirez missed.

Casten Pumareja then logged another goal for DBTC but USJ-R’s Angelo Colina kept their chances alive with his own goal.

The winning moment came when graduating high school student Carlos Miguel Orale kept his focus and sealed the game with DBTC’s fifth goal.

Asignar was hailed as Most Valuable Player and top scorer while teammate Alkuino got the best goalkeeper award as USJ-R’s Angelo Colina was named best midfielder and teammate Churchill John Jubac as the best defender.
