Open category to spice up 10th Alegado Cup

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Just like last year, an open division will be the main showcase of the 10th Mayor Alegado Cup Consolacion Fiesta Basketball League set to kick off on September 1 at the Consolacion Sports Complex.

Tournament commissioner Paul Alelu Flores said a total of six teams will be seeing action in the open category that features former and active varsity and commercial players from Consolacion.

David Justin of team owner Dennis Maglasang is back to defend its title.

Out to give David Justin a tough challenge are the Marino squad of Stanley Robinta, Team Amicis of Lee Mar Dahil, Team Casili of Ryan Ruiz, PB Corporation of Franco Te, and Team Sarith of Niño Semblante.

They will play a single round robin, with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals. The top two seeds will enjoy a twice-to-beat advantage over the lower ranked No.3 and 4.

The winners will fight it out for the championship in a best-of-three series.

Aside from trophies, the champion will also take home P50,000 while the second and third placers will receive P20,000 and P10,000, respectively.

Backstopped by the Consolacion LGU under the flagship of mayor Joannes P. Alegado,  the month-lont tilt is among the highlights of Consolacion’s fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patron San Narciso on October 29.— EBV
