CEBU, Philippines — The Carcar City Lechoneros put an end to Talisay City’s 17-game winning streak after stunning the defending champion Aquastars by the narrowest of margins, 85-84, in the 1st District cluster of the 2019 Cebu Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities and Municipalities Under 21 Developmental Basketball Tournament on Sunday night at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.

Lifting the championship trophy last season with a perfect 14-0 record, the Aquastars opened their title retention bid with a rousing 3-0 start only to crumble at the hands of the Lechoneros.

Ronald Delfino dropped 12 of his game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter as Carcar notched its third victory in five starts.Delfino got huge support from Rey Joseph Alfeche, Dilcer Gaviola and Dave Abella who combined for a total of 35 points.

Leading all the way since racing to a hot 26-14 start, the Lechoneros weathered a spirited endgame resistance by the Aquastars to grind through a hairline triumph.

Keaton Clyde Taburnal scored 23, Clark Ruedas finished with 18 points while Jay Deiparine nailed 17 markers but their efforts went in vain as the Aquastars came back down to earth.

In the other 1st District game, Alvier Alforque sparkled with 22 points as Minglanilla Archangels zapped the Naga City Electrifiers, 93-82.

Minglanilla, which also drew 14 points from Ryzel Gilbuena and 11 from Mark Nebril, now holds a 2-2 card, while Naga fell to 3-2.

In the 4th District games played at the Santa Fe Sports Complex in Bantayan Island, Madridejos clobbered Santa Fe, 110-61, to inch closer towards punching a quarterfinal ticket with a clean 4-0 slate, Tabuelan edged the previously undefeated Medellin, 84-81, to even its record to 2-2, while Bogo City bested Tabogon, 68-60, to take the solo second place in the standings with a 3-1 mark.
