UV spikers start strong in CESAFI beach volley

CEBU, Philippines —  The University of the Visayas men's squad opened their title retention bid with a dominating two-setter over Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) in the 18th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) season beach volleyball tournament yesterday at the Fort San Pedro sand court in Plaza Independencia.

 

UV, who is aiming for a Grand Slam title this year, pounced CIT-U, 21-13, 21-9. The trio of Kevin Juban, Raffy Abanto and Fortunatio Libres didnt gave Gwynn Darylle Guy, Carl Edpan and CJ Nabre a chance en route to a lopsided win.

CIT-U failed to secure its second victory after winning its opening match against Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma, 14-21, 21-17,15-11.

Like UV,  University of Southern Philippines Foundation also logged its first victory against University of San Jose-Recoletos, 21-15, 21-16.

In the women's action, USJ-R lady spikers started their campaign hot with a back-to-back victory over USPF, a 21-14, 21-8 and University of Cebu, 21-9, 21-10.

Cebu Doctors University (CDU), for its part, won its debut at the expense of UC, 21-15, 21-16 while CIT-U blasted USC, 21-10, 21-15.

In the high school division, reigning boys champion USPF defeated UC in straight sets, 21-11,28-26.

USJ-R clamped CIT-U, 21-9, 21-10 before beating Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, 21-9, 21-13.

USPF stunned defending girls champ USJ-R, 21-17, 21-10 while UC pummeled USC, 21-7, 21-10.
