CEBU, Philippines — Two-time defending champion University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers seek no less than redemption as they begin their second round journey in the 18th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men’s basketball tournament against the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras today at the Cebu Coliseum.

Game time is set at 6:45 pm.

The Lancers are coming off a turbulent first round campaign resulting to a dismal 3-3 record, their worst ever start in the league’s 18-year history.

After bowing to the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, the Lancers dropped two more games against the rejuvenated University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers  and the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters to find themselves at fourth place in the standings of a seven-team field under the collegiate division.

The Webmasters are on top of the heap with an immaculate 6-0 record followed by the Jaguars (5-1), and the Panthers (4-2).

As they go for a brand new start, the Lancers are poised to score repeat over the Cobras, whom they clobbered, 68-49, last September 13.

In the first game at 5:15 p.m., the Panthers will try to reaffirm their dominance over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, who are still reeling from six consecutive losses.— EBV
