CEBU, Philippines — This year's edition of the annual Poblacion Oriental Summer Basketball Tournament gets underway today at the Poblacion Oriental covered court in the municipality of Consolacion.
Before the hardcourt hostilities, a simple opening ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. starting off with the traditional parade of competing teams. The highlight of the two-hour program is the selection of best muse and best in uniform.
The two-month joust that is among the highlights of Poblacion Oriental's annual fiesta in honor of their beloved patron San Roque on May 20 features the mini (15 years old and under), midget (21-under), juniors (25-under) and the inter-sitio categories.
Trophies and cash prizes will be given away to the top performing teams.
The tournament is supported by barangay captain Melquiades "Leking" Caylan, sports chairman Eva Malagar and the rest of the barangay council.
Games will be under the supervision of league commissioner Mark Anthony L. Rosal assisted by Joven R. Alivio and Narciso Monterola. (FREEMAN)
