2018 CVIRAA Meet: Soronio produces Cebu City's 1st gold

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines — University of the Visayas’ Venedict Kail Soronio bagged Team Cebu City’s first gold in the 2018 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet yesterday at the Dauis gym here.

The 9-year-old Soronio topped the elementary boys cluster 1 floor exercise in the gymnastic event.

“I really wanted to get the gold. I didn’t felt nervous and I just did my best,” said Soronio who registered 7.9 points for the win. Danao City’s Josef Wenceslao got the silver medal with 7.8 points, while Lapu-Lapu City’s Jee Humphrey Ocura settled for bronze with his 7.55 points.

Soronio also snared the bronze medal in the vault apparatus with 12.54 points with Wenceslao winning the gold.

Mark Angelo Servilla dominated the cluster 2 vault event and individual all-around action, while Bohol’s John Gayrama ruled the mushroom competition.

Lapu-Lapu City gymnasts in Rei Christopher Sevilla and Randy Familiar had a gold and bronze medal finish in the secondary boys floor exercise.

Iverson Randall Dela Pisa delivered another gold for the Cebu Niños in the secondary boys vault competition, while Jember Armas of Lapu-Lapu and Adonis Leyson of Mandaue secured the silver and bronze medal, respectively.

So far, the perennial champion Cebu City now has five gold, four silver and 4 bronze medals, while Lapu-Lapu has 5-4-3 gold-silver-bronze as Danao and host team Bohol are tied at third with both 2-1-1 medal tally.

Over at the Carlos Garcia Sports Complex, Don Bosco Technical College opened its bid with a 1-0 win over Negros Oriental in the secondary boys football.

Team Cebu City Ninos’ elementary baseball bets also logged a back-to-back victory with victories over Negros and Tagbilaran City. (FREEMAN)
