Salon de Rose Open chessfest set December 23

CEBU, Philippines — Cebuano pawnpushers have something to look forward to before the year ends with the staging of the 'Pamaskong Handog ng Salon de Rose" Open Chess Tournament on December 23 at the Basement 2 of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Over P70,000 in cash prize will be given away to the top performers of the 9-round Swiss system competition that is being held in partnership with Rose Pharmacy, Inc. and the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA).

The champion will pocket P20,000, while the second to fifth placers will receive P10,000, P7,000, P5,000 and P4,000, respectively. The sixth to 10th will take home with P3,000 each, while the 11th to 15th will get P1,000.

A P2,000 incentive will be handed out to the top non-rated player, while the top 3 Cepcans, ladies and kiddies will receive P1,000, P700 and P500.

Those who will aspire for the top bounty though have a mountain to climb due to the entry of Grandmaster Enrico Sevillano and International Masters Rico Mascariñas and Kim Steven Yap.

Entry fee is pegged at P300 for the regular players and P200 for the ladies, kiddies and Cepcans.
