USJ-R Spikers rout SWU in CESAFI beach volley

CEBU, Philippines — The University of San Jose-Recoletos lady spikers swept their opponents in the preliminaries capped with a dominant victory over defending champ Southwestern University-Phinma in the 2017 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., women’s beach volleyball tournament yesterday at the Fort San Pedro sand court.

The tandem of Paula Maninang and Linlyn Torado scored a lopsided 21-17, 21-12 to shutdown SWU and claim the semis berth.

The Lady Jaguars finished the preliminaries with a flawless 3-0 slate. Completing the final four casts are SWU, University of Cebu and University of Southern Philippines Foundation.

In the girls action, USPF’s Princess Cortes and Maria Tes Gloria clinched the top seed going into the semis with a thrilling 15-21, 21-16, 15-14 win over UC’s Jamaica Rose Sabellano and Rena Marie Mojado.

UC also advanced to the semis after a dominating win over University of San Carlos, 21-16, 21-11.

SWU belles also marched into the semis with Cristy Sucalit and Ghanna Suan upending Cebu Eastern College’s Cassey Pauline Mendoza and Blaise Veloso, 21-19, 15-21, 15-6. — (FREEMAN)
