Gov. Cup South Division quarterfinal cast now complete

CEBU, Philippines – Toledo City whipped up a furious offensive storm at the endgame to turn back Badian, 87-68, and punch a quarterfinal ticket in South Division Bracket 3 of the 2017 Cebu Governor's Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities and Municipalities Basketball Tournament last Saturday night at the Barba Sports Complex in the city of Toledo.

The two protagonists figured in a nip and tuck battle during the first three quarters, but Toledo suddenly waxed hot and dropped a devastating 36-19 bomb in the windup to decimate Badian by 19 points at the final buzzer.

In the other game, Dumanjug shackled Alegria, 91-54, to forge a three-way tie at the second place with Badian and Barili.

Barili, however, took the other quarterfinal spot in S3 by virtue of its highest tie-breaker applying the quotient system.

Joining Toledo and Barili in the South Division quarters are Talisay City and Minglanilla for S1 and Dalaguete and Samboan for  S2.

Up North, Jancork Cabahug unloaded 32 points, 15 in the second quarter, as Mandaue hammered Compostela, 104-80, to claim the No.1 spot in North Division Bracket 1 with an unblemished 5-0 slate.

Consolation claimed the other N1 q'final seat after crushing Tudela, 123-58, while Liloan notched its only second victory at the expense of Pilar, 90-77. — EBV (FREEMAN)
